About Us

This organization was started by my amazing grandmother, who always worked towards what she believed in.

Aisha Charity Association (ACA) has been in operation for 13 years. It was established for visually impaired woman. It is a non political and non governmental organization. The object of the Association is to make visually impaired woman self-reliant through teaching them Braille Script, mobility(waking sticks) and teaching them vocational skills.

Aisha was founded in 2006 in Addis Ababa. The Association initially began it's operation by helping two visually impaired girls to have independent living space by providing them with financial assistance whenever possible. In the past 12 years, it has increased to helping more than 40 women therefore; ACA has acquired a small house for them to reside in.

Most of the blind women who seek help have thrust for knowledge, talents of varying  degrees which with proper education can be enhanced. At the moment, most of them are in high school and universities. The students are provided with accommodation, food, clothing and health care. Aside from education, they also learn vocational and life skills and very soon they hope to introduce computer classes.

The total of graduates form ACA are 27. All graduate students have been employed by government  institutions and became independent. The majority of visually impaired woman are affected with preventable and treatable blindness. The cost of the treatment is beyond the means of ACA. Thus far, women who have gained their eye sight are 13 and this has been accomplished by help of donors who were willing to sponsor these women to have proper eye services and treatment.
